Kelowna, British Columbia, March 16, 2022 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Wine Growers British Columbia (WGBC) is thrilled to launch its new British Columbia Wine Certification course under the Wines of BC Ambassador program, with the Level 1 now available worldwide for industry professionals and wine enthusiasts. Build your knowledge of BC’s world-class wines just in time to raise a glass for BC Wine Month in April!

the Wines of BC Ambassador Program is a unique series of educational courses focused exclusively on BC wine through original content, design and materials. Created by WGBC and in consultation with industry leaders, the program features three levels of education ranging from introductory to expert. The comprehensive program offers researched information, interactive learning modules, topographic maps, historical timelines and much more.

Start with the Level One certification which is designed for everyone – those who make, grow, serve or simply enjoy BC wine. Developed in partnership with Okanagan College, Level One offers an introduction to British Columbia wines presented in a multimedia platform accessible entirely online. Interactive and engaging modules focus on the basics, including topics of regional characteristics and history, best varieties and styles, sustainability, wine pairings and more.

To celebrate BC Wine Month in April, WGBC is offering FREE access to the Level 1 course, valued at $75 + GST ​​(CAD).

For winery tasting rooms, restaurants and retail businesses, this provides the opportunity to boast of having “BC Wine Ambassador Certified” staff available to meet their customers’ needs with the best service possible. For BC wine enthusiasts and industry professionals, the Ambassador Program offers the opportunity to enhance their knowledge of BC wines and their understanding of our diverse wine regions and the dedicated people behind these fascinating wines.

The content program was curated by Master of Wine Rhys Pender in consultation with wine professionals from the Team of ambassador animators. BC wine industry experts, scientists and geologists, educators and regional wine associations also contributed.

“There are some pretty exciting things happening in BC wine and it seems the world is taking notice!” says Rhys Pender, MW. “The unique climate here, at the extreme of viticultural extremes, proves to produce vibrant, crisp, complex and interesting wines. It was great to be a part of bringing together all the information about BC’s climate, regions, sub-regions, soils, and statistics and help create this new certification for the wine community. It’s a great resource for wine professionals and wine lovers to access everything they need to know about BC wine.

The Level Two classroom certification offers a deeper dive into the topics covered in Level One and introduces a tasting component of BC wines alongside international benchmark comparisons. Level 2 students also benefit from having a trained ambassador facilitator who leads the class. Registration is now available for the next Tier Two dates on WineBC.com.

Going forward, WGBC plans to provide the most in-depth and comprehensive Tier Three, with in-region experiences that will be offered to accepted applicants each year.
