Government of Bihar (Department of Information Technology) Holds Workshop on Blockchain for Government Applications

Department of Information Technology, Government of Bihar held a workshop on Blockchain for Government Applications for Senior Officials and Dignitaries on 4 June 2022 at Ashoka Hall, Hotel Maurya, Patna.

Govt. of Bihar IAS, Principal Secretary, IT Department, Santosh Kumar Mall, in his address to the audience said: “Technology has played a central role in empowering governance in the modern age. Blockchain technology could reduce government redundancy, streamline processes, reduce audit burden, increase security, and ensure data integrity.He further added that blockchain will enable the government body to drive e-governance with optimum efficiency.

Govt. of Bihar, IAS, Development Commissioner, Vivek Kumar Singh graced the occasion as the chief guest. The workshop started with the usual lighting of the lamp by the main guest with the dignitaries on the dais, i.e. Santosh Kumar Mall, IAS, Principal Secretary of IT Department, GoB, Arvind Kumar Choudhary , Principal Secretary, Labor Resources Department, B Rajendar, IAS, Principal Secretary, Ravi Manubhai Parmar, IAS, Principal Secretary, Minor Water Resources Department, Arvind Kumar Choudhary, Special Secretary, Dept. of IT, GoB, Aditya Kumar Sinha, Director C-DAC Patna, and Laksmi Eswari PR, Director, C-DAC Hyderabad.

Bihar Development Commissioner, Viivek Kumar Singh, Bihar highlighted the importance of blockchain technology. He further added that different vertical sectors of government can benefit from this technology. Implementing this technology will result in improved efficiency and transparency.

Blockchain Experts Kunal Abhishek, Mahesh Patil, Aditya Kumar Sinha, C-DAC Director and Gokul Alex, Lead SME on Blockchain shared their enriched knowledge and discussed the benefits of Blockchain with the attendees.

The Department of Information Technology, Government of Bihar has invited senior officials from all major departments of the Government of Bihar. The workshop participants represented Cooperative Department, Beltron, General Administration Department, Finance Department, SC ST Welfare Department, KPMG, BPSC, Rural Works Department, planning and development, PHED, transport department, IPRD, Art Culture and Youth Dept., Sugarcane Dept., Animal Breeding dept., UIDAI, board of revenue, Energy Dept., Bihar Mahadalit Vikas Mssion, Social Welfare Dept. , Labor Resources Dept., Agriculture Dept., Minority Welfare Dept. ., Panchayati Raj, Bihar State Tourism Development Corporation Ltd., Commercial Tax Department, Legal Department, Home Department, IG Training with Bihar Police, Building Construction Department, to name a few- one.

Experts explained that Blockchain technology is an immutable public digital ledger, which means that when a transaction is recorded, it cannot be changed, and thanks to the encryption feature, the blockchain is always secure. Transactions are done instantly and seamlessly, as the ledger is updated automatically. As it is a decentralized system, no intermediary fees are required and the authenticity of transactions is verified and confirmed by participants. It is certain that in specific applications, blockchain can facilitate government processes, streamline processes, reduce audit burdens, increase security, and ensure data integrity.

Blockchain’s successful applications in government services were also told by the expert speakers. In the area of ​​e-governance, the government can reduce service time, as well as establish the authenticity of certificates, by using blockchain technology in land records, transport licenses, study certificates, certificates public service, etc.
