The Institute of Financial Services Practitioners (IFSP) will run an online course that will help professionals in Malta’s financial services sector become accredited to provide trustee services.

The IFSP Foundation Certificate in Trusts Law and Management course begins on April 21, with online lectures approximately two days a week, through to a final exam on July 9.

Accountants, auditors, lawyers or bankers will learn the principles of fiduciary administration from some of the most prestigious names in the world of financial services.

Max Ganado will kick off the course with an introductory lecture, while Meryl Thomas will give lectures on general principles, for the eighth time, as part of the IFSP’s course on trusts. Thomas has taught at Birmingham City University and the Truman Bodden Law School in the Cayman Islands, and is a visiting professor at both Université Paris Ouest Nanterre La Défense and the Institute of Law in Jersey.

The course’s 25 lectures will also feature other leading practitioners in the field, including Ganado, Anthony Cremona and Malcolm Becker.

This is a valuable opportunity to learn the basics from some of Malta’s financial services industry leaders, while gaining a home-based qualification

“The course is designed to give practitioners looking to add trust services to their offering, whether new to the industry or more experienced in the industry, a solid foundation in trusts,” said the president of the IFSP, Tonio Zarb.

“This is a valuable opportunity to learn the basics from some of the leaders in Malta’s financial services industry, while gaining a home-based qualification and staying prepared for whatever the future holds.”

The IFSP brings together a wide range of professionals to serve as the “voice of the financial services industry in Malta”. The IFSP works closely with regulators and authorities to communicate clearly

views of industry practitioners, while providing expert advice, as needed, on matters of national importance that may impact this important economic sector.

The Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP), the leading international professional association in the field of trusts, recognizes the IFSP Certificate in Trust Law and Management as equivalent to its own foundation certificate. Likewise, the course meets the required continuing professional development standards and MIA benchmarks and is accredited with CPE core hours.

In addition to an industry-recognized certification in trust administration, participants in the law and management courses will also receive free IFSP membership through the end of the year.
