Proceeds from the July 6 event will go to the Newmarket Shelter and year-round homeless relief programs
Following the success of last summer’s fundraising event, Inn From the Cold is hosting its second annual golf day in July to raise funds for the Newmarket non-profit.
The event will take place on Wednesday, July 6 at the Lebovic Golf Course in Aurora.
“Most people who love golf are really excited to play golf at Lebovic Golf Club, so there’s a lot of excitement about it,” said Ann Watson, executive director of Inn From the Cold.
Proceeds will go to the association’s programs. He hopes to raise $30,000, she said.
The organization is always looking for a combination of ways to raise funds and one of them is to hold events that are a good way to raise awareness, Watson said. Many non-profit organizations hold golf events so this is “not a one off deal” but for those who want to support Newmarket’s homeless shelter and programs this is a great way to do it.
“It’s an opportunity to get together with good friends or people you work with, enjoy a day and at the same time give back.”
Summer is usually a slow time for nonprofits in terms of fundraising, Watson said, and because the organization’s name refers to the cold weather, many believe it only functions as a seasonal shelter, but it offers many programs and since the pandemic hit, its season has been extended to run 12 months a year.
“Our work has really expanded over the past few years, and so has our fundraising needs.”
Of the 132 places available, 56 are still available. The cost is $250 per golfer and includes 18 holes of golf, a cart, two meals, snacks and three drink tickets.
Registrants will also receive two free, non-transferable rounds of golf that can be used in any two-month interval during the 2022 golf season.
In addition to main sponsor Lebovic Golf Club, hole sponsors include Hudvin Mechanical, Hotwheelz, Anthony Petruccelli, BMO Nesbitt Burns, in memory of Gary and Susan Murphy, Gentec International, Investia Financial Services Inc., Riverwalk Wealth and B&B Automotive Inc.
