Members of Jackson Fire Department filled a truck this week with outdated protective suits, boots, pants, gloves and helmets to help Ukrainian emergency personnel. Other organizations, such as the Stark County Sheriff’s Officealso collected material this week for Ukraine.

“These are things that have expired for us that we typically use for training,” Jackson Fire Chief Tim Berczik said. “It’s also a spring cleaning for us.”

Berczik said the donated gear was “not ripped or torn” and should provide Ukrainian emergency responders with satisfactory protection.

“They don’t have all the requirements (or expirations) there that we have,” the chef said. “They just need equipment. It’s good that we can do something.”

Last month the Perry Township Police Department donated some bulletproof vests to help the Ukrainian forces in the war effort.

Outdated firefighting equipment from the Jackson Fire Department is on its way to help emergency responders in Ukraine.

Jackson Fire has partnered with the Cleveland Maidan Association (CMA), which began in 2014 and works to provide financial assistance to the families of fallen or injured American veterans, according to a press release from the organization.

Since the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the association has focused its efforts on providing medical and tactical supplies, sending essential humanitarian aid to Ukrainian hospitals and refugee camps.
