The Bar Association will hold an online certificate course in compliance


The Bar Association of Sri Lanka (BASL) will launch an online certificate course in compliance next week, and it will be the 11th online certificate course organized by BASL since the pandemic.

The course is due to start on March 9, 2022 and will include specialists in the field with many Central Bank resource persons with lectures taking place over a 10-week period, every Wednesday afternoon on the zoom platform.

Legal experts as resource persons will include the Deputy Secretary of the Monetary Board of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL), JPR Karunaratne, CBSL, Additional Director of Banking Supervision Department, RS De Silva Jayatilleke, CBSL, Deputy Director of Financial Intelligence Unit, Attorney Ayesh Ariyasinghe, CBSL. Senior Deputy Director Banking Supervision Department Lawyer A. Edirisinghe, CBSL Senior Deputy Director Banking Supervision Department WAMSB Abeysinghe, CBSL Senior Deputy Director Banking Supervision Department SI Alahendra, CBSL Senior Deputy Director Banking Supervision Department RD Joseph, CBSL Principal Deputy Director Payments and Settlements Department Attorney K. Ambagahawita, CBSL Principal Deputy Director Regional Development Department GS Kamileen, CBSL Principal Deputy Director Supervision of Non-Banking Financial Institutions AA Pradeep, DFCC Vice President Bank Compliance Chaya Guneratne General Counsel Sri Lanka Insurance Regulatory Commission Director Advocate Damayanthi Fernando and Seylan Bank PLC Chief Compliance Officer and Association of Banking Compliance Officers Chairman Advocate Dilani Sooriyaarachchi.

BASL President, Saliya Pieris PC said, “This is the first time that BASL has organized a certification course in compliance which is an emerging area for lawyers, and it is in this context that we have decided to conduct this course. I encourage those who are already in the compliance field as well as members who are considering the possibility of specializing in the compliance field to join us.

BASL Secretary Rajeev Amarasuriya said, “This is the 11th online certificate course held after the onset of the pandemic, and the compliance course is a first for BASL. Not only is this an important new area, with the economy growing and the added impetus when the port city becomes a leading financial center in the region, but there will be high demand for those who specialize in compliance.

He also thanked the Central Bank of Sri Lanka for the technical support and advice and for the many resource persons for this course.

BASL will congratulate lawyers on the “golden jubilee”

The Sri Lanka Bar Association held a congratulatory ceremony to honor members who have completed 50 years between March 2019 and March 11.

The ceremony will take place on March 11 at the Hilton Colombo. Chief Justice Jayantha Jayasuriya PC will be the main guest.
