UNSW stays the course in QS Subject Rankings 2022

UNSW Sydney was named one of the best universities in the world for the study of 41 subjects in the 2022 QS World University Rankings by Subject. Five UNSW subjects are ranked in the global top 20 and 20 in the top 50.

Mineral and Mining Engineering is the highest ranked subject in UNSW, rising from fifth to third in the world. This is her sixth year in the top 10 and as the top performing subject in the UNSW.

UNSW is ranked number one in Australia for five subjects – Civil and Structural Engineering, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Mechanical, Aeronautical and Manufacturing Engineering, Accounting and Finance and Statistics and Operations Research. Accounting and Finance and Statistics and Operations Research moved up from second place in 2021.

Professor Sven Rogge, Vice-Chancellor for Research at Scientia, noted that the results across a range of disciplines underscore the breadth of UNSW’s quality in research and teaching.

“UNSW’s achievements in so many disciplines – from engineering and science to the humanities – are testament to our focus on solving societal challenges. We can be proud of our efforts and our contribution to Australia’s social and economic future.

The five UNSW subjects in the global top 20 are mineral and mining engineering (3), civil and structural engineering (13), law (14), petroleum engineering (17) and accounting and finance (20).

Published annually since 2011, the QS Global Subject Rankings are based on academic reputation, employer reputation and research citations. The 2022 ranking ranked 1,543 institutions, an increase of 100 since 2021. UNSW ranked in one additional area in 2022 – Hospitality & Leisure Management (101-150).

The ranking aims to help prospective students identify the best schools in the world in their chosen field, with the list of subjects being extended each year in response to the high demand for subject-level comparisons.
